Historically, Thanksgiving in America was a day to thank god for a successful harvest. Today the holiday is all about food (especially turkey), parades and American football, with maybe a Pilgrim or Native American on the side.

Thanksgiving is on the second Monday of October in Canada, and the fourth Thursday in November in America.

Celebrating Thanksgiving in Australia

And why not!  It’s up to you whether you want to use the Canadian or American date.

Thanksgiving Party Products & Decorations

Common decorations in America like pumpkins, fall (autumn) leaves and indian corn may be hard to find, but you could try making your own. Kids could have fun making handprint turkeys. Have them trace one hand on blank white paper, draw a face on the thumb and color the fingers like colorful feathers. The turkeys can be used to decorate the house. (see one here)
