Fairytale Party Theme Ideas

Once upon a time…

Older fairy stories, many penned by the Brothers Grimm, were written for adults as well as children. They were a little more sinister than the polished Disney versions.

Reclaim the fairytale theme and transform your party into an enchanting event. As many characters are princesses or princes, fairytales make an elegant theme.

Host a dinner party or a tea party in the garden. See the shops below for costume and decorating ideas.

Clothing and Costumes

Couples can come dressed as a fairytale combination such as Beauty and the Beast, Red Riding Hood and the Wolf, Goldilocks and one of the three bears, or Snow White and one of the dwarves. Singles can dress as their favourite character including Pinocchio, King Titan, Cinderella, Prince Charming, Puss in Boots, the Queen of Hearts, Rapunzel, or Alice in Wonderland.

Or get creative and go as a frog looking for a princess to kiss him, a sheep looking for Little Bo Peep, Chicken Licken /Chicken Little / Henny Penny who sky is falling…

Place tea light candles on the ground and tables. If it’s an outdoors party hang lanterns or fairy lights.

Party Food

Food plays an important role in fairytales. Food can be poisoned, it can be magic; it can be used to lure children into a trap or to determine a princess from a peasant. Read on for some fairytale food ideas.
